Auckland is a fascinating city, with fantastic beaches, hiking trails and over a dozen lovely holiday islands. Situated on the narrow isthmus of South Island, between the Tasamanian Sea and the Gulf of Hauraki and the Pacific Ocean, Auckland is perched between 48 volcanoes. These have formed a landscape of cones, islands, depressions and lakes. The climate is temperate, the hottest months, with maximums of 23º, in January and February. The best-known feature on the face of Auckland is the emblematic island is Rangitoto, formed as little as 1000 years ago, which guards the entrance to the port of Waitemata. Auckland has the highest population of Poleniesians of any city in the world, and the Maioris live for the most part on the many islands.

Apartments and flats, even lovely family homes with gardens start at as little as 240,000 dollars. Some controversy surrounds the possible extension of building restrictions in rural volcanic areas, although the city council tends to favour home-owners.
