Wellington, at the Southernmost tip of North island, is new Zealnd's beautiful and compact capital city. A surprisingly active arts scene, café cultureand night-lief offer the visitor much more than other cities of its size. This is home to the new Zealand film and theatre industries. Out of English-speaking cities, Wellington ranks fourth in the world in terms of quality of life. According to legend, Kupe discovered the district in the tenth century. European settlement began in the 1830's and the wool industry has strong roots here. Many buildings are of wooden construction, because of the relatively high risk of earthquakes.
Wellington offers the usual wide range of capital cities for investment property opportunities, from sheet metal industrial warehouses to student rentals. Building space between the harbour and the surrounding hills is restricted, so Wellington is more densely populated than other cities in new Zealand, stimulating demand.
